Common Access Card interoperability
If you work for, or with, the US Government, you’re probably very familiar with the CAC (card).
“The CAC, a “smart” card about the size of a credit card, is the standard identification for active-duty uniformed Service personnel, Selected Reserve, DoD civilian employees, and eligible contractor personnel. It is also the principal card used to enable physical access to buildings and controlled spaces, and it provides access to DoD computer network and systems.” *
CAC Cards provide a range of operator information and include 2FA in the form of and Integrated Chip designed to simplify the login process for US Government employees.
CDI is a US-based manufacturer that builds FIPS 140-2 validated Out of Band Management devices. The driver for the CDI system is a software-based, single pane of glass, termed Out of Band Manager (OBM). OBM has the designed capability to authenticate a CAC and grant an operator access.
Additional benefits of the OBM software include a full forensic log of all keystroke activity, roll-based access control, and interoperability with the more prominent network management tools.
