Firewall Serial Ports

All Firewalls have an out of band console port of one type or another. These firewalls are typically managed through the inband capability of the network. This works great in theory but in practice the network will have problems.

It is for this reason that many firewall outsourcing companies (now called Managed Service Providers MSP's) place a CDI UniGuard on the Firewall serial console port to ensure quick secure access to the firewall in the event of a network problem. Power control modules can be added to provide power rest in cases of failure.
